The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road Glowing Red Garnets by Werner Tscholl

This is a glowing pair of garnet-shaped structures, part of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road -- Austria/Italy, designed by a South Tyrolean architect Werner Tscholl. Been built high above the town of Moos in the Italian Alps and also to serve as a stop along the road. The garnets are made from glass, steel and locally-sourced concrete, and the most beautiful at this is the LED lights fitted to this sculpture will glow with a brilliant red at night.
A road, once a mule track, links the Passeiertal valley and the Ötztal valley. Over thousands of years, unique similarities between the two valleys evolved, triumphing over the natural boundary created by the mountains. Architectural sculptures located at several stopping places along the road, enlighten travellers about the natural surroundings, the history, the culture, the communities and the economy of the region. Standing on the rocky hillside near Stuls, a stunning view down to the village of Moos and across the far end of the Passeiertal valley opens up before you. Two garnets, modelled on the geological rock formations found in the Passeiertal valley, serve as an exhibition room and a viewing platform.
